All
children have the right to live their lives free
from violence or repression, to achieve their dreams
and maximise their potential. But we also have a
responsibility to play a part in creating a safe
and peaceful world, making sure that everyone, no
matter where they live, is able to have a full and
happy life.
But
what are our rights? And what are our duties and
responsibilities?
In
this section, you'll find a collection of videos,
radio documentaries, animations and cartoons which
explore different rights that every child, no matter
where they live, should be entitled to, as well as
the duties and responsibilities they bring.
To
get things started, have a listen to a radio documentary
made by a group of Key Stage 3 students at Stoke
Newington School.

The
theme of the programme is Respect – finding
out what it means to people both now and in the past.
Respect
is a word which is often used, but do people really
know what it means? The media often stereotype all
young people as being "disrespectful" to
authority. But is this view fair? Was there more
respect for authority in the past? Do young people
generally mean to intimidate or be rude to older
people? Or is their behaviour the result of a lack
of understanding between different generations?
To
find out the answers, in February 2006, a group of
students interviewed seven people living in the local
community, aged between 55 and 88. The students then
edited down the footage into a 15-minute radio documentary.
