There was no doubt in the mind of both Chris Cullingford (Art) and Mark Malcolm (Graphics) that animation was the area they wanted to explore in this project. From the moment that they were first introduced to Somethin Else they knew it was the area they wanted to explore.

Two meetings with Adam McGrath, interactive producer at Somethin’ Else served to set the two departments on their way. From an unknown, unfathomable media format, it was now comprehensible, achievable and exciting. With technical tips and how-tos being shared by Adam and a bit of practice they were on their very different ways to producing animated gifs.

Terry Gilliam, Never Mind the Bollocks and Gilbert & George. These were the artistic references for the Year 8 class working on this. Given free reign to find the right that most excited them students spent sessions cutting up letters to create their message (Never Mind the Bollocks), taking digital photography (Gilbert & George), importing it into Photoshop and then, a la Terry Gilliam, animating their work.

" I like the way the students have used comedy animations to address some serious issues."
